Tall Task for Lane
Pioneer Press Article: Lane Tech Girls Basketball Preview
In the
game of basketball you simply can't teach height. You either
have it or you don't.
For
Lane Tech, the question of whether they have height or not is
still undecided. The Indians lost four of their five tallest
girls from last season and with a very tall Von Steuben team
just down the road, that could be a big problem

Lane Tech will have a very interesting schedule this
year. They start out the season playing in an upgraded Lane Tech
Thanksgiving Tournament. Last year Lane Tech finished second in
the Tournament that featured only one other traditionally strong
basketball program. But this year, traditionally strong
basketball programs Oak Park, Evanston, and Zion Benton will
play in the tournament and all are scheduled to play Lane Tech.
However, Lane will be lucky to win even one of the three games
versus those opponents. Lane also plays Brooks and Taft in the
Lane Tech tournament

This December, Lane Tech will play in the Luther North

conference games versus Gordon Tech, St. Ignatius,

They say basketball is king in Illinois. Well that statement is
definitely true for the basketball talent rich Chicago Public
League. The top two teams in the state Simeon and Marshall come
from the Public League. Simeon won it all in class AA last year
while Marshall finished in third place. Only a loss to Simeon in
the state semi-finals prevented Marshall from appearing in the
state finals.
Meanwhile, the rest of the Public League is not too
shabby. This year Crane, Farragut, Morgan Park, Von Steuben,
Lincoln Park, Washington, and Morgan Park will probably be
regular top 25 teams throughout the

The Haves and Have Nots in the Chicago Public
League
by Neil Hernandez

There are
93 high schools in the Chicago Public League. Yet the results on
the sports field are not evenly dispersed. A handful of
schools consistently finish in the top, the rest struggle to
compete in most sports. So in the Public League there are the
Haves and the Have nots. The Haves consistently have good
results and the Have nots do not. Looking at the 2006 Fall
sports results (see Table below) I can probably categorize teams
in the Haves in no particular order as Lane Tech ,Northside
Prep, Mather, Whitney Young, Von Steuben, Payton, Morgan Park.
The Have nots are everyone else. We also see that of the 5 of
the 7 schools in the Haves category are from the northside.

Schools Dominate Public League in Fall 2006
·
Lane Tech, Northside Prep,
Vonsteuben, Mather, and Payton finished in the top 4 in
vast majority of all sports.
Fall 2006 was another banner year for Lane Tech in the Public
League. Lane Tech won varsity championships in girls swimming,
girls cross country, and sixteen-inch softball. Furthermore,
Lane Tech finished runner up in boys cross country and in boys
soccer. So out of 10 varsity sports in the fall Lane Tech
finished in the top 2 in 5 of the 10 sports. Northside Prep also
had 5 teams finish in the top 2 including city championships in
