Lane Tech Wins 16-inch Softball Public League Title

(UIC- Chicago, IL) The Chicago Public League decided to resurrect boys softball in 1999 when 24 teams fielded teams. Now, the sport has grown to 51 teams. Schurz won the first title. However, since then Lane Tech has dominated the titles with five 16-inch softball championships in the last 7 season. The latest championship came on Friday, October 20, 2006 as Lane Tech upended Payton 15-5 at UIC. Seniors Joe Wald (2 for 3, 3 RBIs), Andy Wojick (2 for 3, 3-run HR, 3 RBIs) and winning pitcher Jon Holzman led Lane (12-3) to the title. 2005 Lane Tech 16" Boys Softball city champs softball signed by members of the 2005 team. The ball is in display at the Lane awards case in front of the Lane Tech main office.
