A two-time All-Public League selection, Nizio finished the regular season with 140 kills, 160 digs, 15 blocks and 25 aces. When she is not doing damage at the net, Nizio is one of Northside Prep's top serve receivers.
The All-Public League team also features one of the best hitters in the state in Young's 5-11 junior Simone Asque, who averaged more than five kills per game with a season-high 15 in a victory over St. Ignatius. Asque is receiving attention from college coaches.
Sydney Campbell, a 5-7 junior at Young, is one of the best all-around players in the Public League. The three-year starter and team captain led the Dolphins in digs and aces and had 211 kills, including nine in Young's quarterfinal loss to Lane.
Payton's 5-11 sophomore Courtney Cunningham is a two-time selection and still has two more seasons ahead of her. Cunningham finished the regular season with 200 kills and 84 blocks and had 12 kills in Payton's quarterfinal win over No. 2 seed Morgan Park.
Kelvyn Park landed a trio of players on the All-Public League team -- 5-2 junior Lissette Garcia, 5-5 senior Yadira Vera and 5-6 senior Jondilyn Zamot.
Coach Mike Nguyen called Garcia ''the total package'' and Vera ''the best all-around player Kelvyn Park has developed.''
Sophomore Nadejda Ivanova and outside hitter Vicky Steinys are two of the major reasons Von Steuben advanced to the city title game.
Coach Jim Gill said Ivanova possesses ''excellent setter skills,'' and Steinys was among the Panthers' leaders in nearly every statistical category.
Two-time selection Melanie Millhouse led South Side power Morgan Park in kills and digs and was an all-tournament choice at Oak Lawn and De La Salle. She also played on the 2004 city championship team and sports a grade-point average over 3.5.
Senior Amy Nokes, a transfer from Loyola, helped a young Lane team spring the biggest upset of the city tournament with her five kills and 12 digs in the quarterfinal round against top-seeded Young.
Northside Prep's Walther is another two-time selection and came up big in the city title game with six kills and two aces. She had 150 kills, 165 digs, 10 blocks and 13 aces during the regular season.
