Lane Tech Wins 2nd Straight Regional Crown
Lane Tech 9 Elmwood Park 1
(Elmwood Park High School, Elmwood Park, IL) After Lane Tech lost to Farragut in the city championship 8 days ago, they have been on a complete roll. Two days ago Lane shutout Guerin 10-0 in the Elmwood Park regional semi-final and today they handily took the host school Elmwood Park by a final score of 9-1. Lane scored on goals from Rodolfo Fransual, Edwin Rodriguez (2 goals), Oscar Vazquez, Chris Chaquinga, David Janisch, Jesus Solis, and Francisco Chavez(2 goals). Lane Tech has now won a state regional crown two years in a row. Last year Lane blanked Elmwood Park 6-0 to take the regional title. Then Lane went on to beat Steinmetz 5-0, Schurz 5-1, and Whitney Young 4-2 to make it all the way to the state Supersectional where they finally fell to Glenbrook South 5-1 in the New Trier Supersectional. The Lane Tech appearance in the Supersectionals last year was the furthest a Chicago Public League team has gone since the elimination of the automatic state berth for the Public League a few years ago. If Lane is to get closer to duplicating the 2005 team success in 2006 they will have to get by Catholic League power St Ignatius in the Sectional Semi-final this coming Tuesday at 5:00pm.
