Week #5 Chicago (Young) (3-3)

Lane Crushes Young

Lane 42 Whitney Young 0

This season Whitney Young moved up to the competitive Illini-Red Bird Conference of the Chicago Public League, however, whether they stay in the Illini-Red Bird Conference is another story.

Their loss today to Lane Tech certainly did not help their cause. In a one sided game from the very beginning, Lane Tech destroyed Whitney Young 42-0.

In the 4th play to open the game, Lane scored on a 65 yard touchdown on a deflected pass from Lane quarterback Matt Richard to Brandon Camacho. On Lane's second possession Lane's three sport star (Baseball, Basketball, and Football), William Moorehead scored the first of his second touchdown of the day on a 26 yard run. Moorehead (15 carries, 131 yards, 2 TD's) struck again with a 2 yard touchdown run with 5:19 in the first half to put Lane Tech comfortably ahead 20-0.

Lane's next points came on a 1 yard quarterback sneak by Matt Richards, and a 28 yard touchdown reception by Sophomore receiver James Glaesser (5'5" 140). The final score came on a 25 yard touchdown reception by receiver Xavier Torres (6 receptions, 77 yards).

Lane did very well in a day filled with many distractions. Their star Offensive Lineman and college prospect, Ed Cortez did not up to play. Also, Xavier Torres received his first offer early in the week when the Air force Academy offered him a football scholarship. He has not made a decision yet but is considering the offer. Finally, it was Lane's homecoming and the stands were filled with tons of students clad with Lane's myrtle and gold school colors.
