Lane Takes Conference Title on Senior Night

October 13, 2006

Lane 29

Curie 19

(Lane Tech Stadium- Chicago, IL)   The last time Lane Tech lost it’s conference was in the 2003 football season when Steinmetz, led by star Quarterback Justin Anderson, beat a Couri Benz led Lane Tech team. Benz was one of Lane’s best all time quarterbacks. So when Curie took an early 7-0 lead on a 60 yard touchdown run by running back Darius Bell, thoughts of losing a rare conference title came to mind. However, Lane responded and scored 29 unanswered points and eventually won 29-19.

Defensive back James Glaesser (3 interceptions) said: “the coaches told us before the game we had to win this for Mark Wittinghill.” Mark Wittinghill was a long time Lane tech assistant coach and former all-state quarterback for Lane Tech before passing away earlier this year. The Lane Tech football booster club honored Wittinghill by presenting his mother and family a framed jersey of Mark Wittinghill’s number during an emotional halftime ceremony.

This game was also senior night. Before the game, Lane recognized the contributions of all it’s seniors and their parents by introducing each senior and their parent or parents on the field.

Curie also scored touchdowns on a 70 yard touchdown reception by Keith Lewis and a 18 yard touch reception by Thompson Bren.

Scoring for Lane was William Moorehead on a 5 yard touchdown run, Christopher Blackmon on a 2 yard TD run, a safety by Adam Nelson, a 1 yd TD rin by Robert Pienkos, and a 3 yard TD reception by Koshion Barfield
