Stevenson vs. Lane Tech

  • It's unofficial but latest reports has Lane Tech playing at Stevenson on Friday, October 27, 2006 at 7:00pm

Game Preview

Stevenson has lost two games this year to two very quality teams in undefeated Libertyville and speedy Lake Zurich Bears. Stevenson has a very big team and that is big as in size. They also feature a good running back in Dan Dowd who some say is still recovering from an ankle injury. Last year Stevenson was a great running team with Breckheimer and Johnson and balanced that with passing from Preston Earl.

On the other hand Lane Tech is having a down season with early season losses to Lockport, Simeon, and Evanston. The Lockport game was a blowout and Lane had the lead versus both Evanston and Simeon but blew it. After starting out the season 0-3 Lane then went on a tear vs. very weak Public league conference opponents to finish 6-3. Lane relies primarily on a running game behind running back William Moorehead and Christopher Blackmon. But if those two are stopped like Lockport and Evanston stopped them ,Quarterback Robert Pienkos has to rely on a shaky passing game. Lane does have a couple big play receivers and special teams players in Chris Anton and Fuad Salami. Also, their Defensive line led by Durrel Jamisson (6-2, 380) and Adam Nelson (6-4, 270)is particularly tough against the run.

Furthermore, Lane has played Stevenson tough in past playoff games. Stevenson  beat Lane 16-6 in the 2nd round in 2002 and again in 2003 this time by a score of 28-25 in a game where Stevenson mad a couple big 4th downs and Lane missed three extra points.

Lane Tech only chance in this game is if their secondary can stop the Stevenson passing game and will have to capitalize on a couple special team plays. Defensively, if Stevenson contains Blackmon and Moorehead, they should score enough points versus Lane's defense to win this game

Re: Lane Tech vs. Stevenson Game Preview Reply

On the plus side for Lane Tech --> The 7 teams Stevenson beat combined for a 19-44 record. The only winning teams they beat are 5-4 and they had to squeak out a 14-7 victory from a 4-5 Warren team.

Stevenson always plays hard so those are just the numbers above. I didn't see them play this year but they shouldn't like the Stevenson team you've seen in the past few years.

....its the passing game that is their strength this year. Speed on defense can and has bested their size advantage on the 'O' line. So it is imperative that you disrupt their passing game close to the line of scrimmage....otherwise Mr Murtha will eat you alive.
