CommentsTo all my current and past players I bid a very fond farewell. It was a honor and a privlege to have worked with all of you over the past nine years. I will leave this program with many fond memories, and no matter where I coach in the future, my heart will always be with Lane Tech football. I hope you will stay in touch, and hope to see many of you in the future . Feel free to stop by the gym , and any help I can give you in terms of your lifting I will do so gladly. I want you all to succeed, and achieve your maximum potential in football . --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CommentsMr. Brady: Thank you for your service to the Lane Tech football community over the years. I hope the players you coached will learn a few lessons from what you taught them and use it for the betterment of their lives. Good luck in all your future endevors.
CommentsWHAT THE $%#& IS GOING ON. I UNDERSTAND THAT RIO HAS JUST FIRED BRADY.....YOU KNOW I CAN ONLY THINK OF ONE REASON TO LET DENNIS AND HIS STAFF GO AND THAT WOULD BE IF THERE WAS SOME TYPE OF CRIMINAL ACTIVITY GOING ON. I DONT BELIEVE THAT TO BE THE CASE...DENNIS HAS BEEN A LONG TIME LEADER,ROLE MODEL,COACH,FRIEND,OF THE LANE TECH PROGRAM. I CAN THINK OF 30-40 PEOPLE THAT ARE WHERE THEY ARE TODAY BECAUSE OF DENNIS AND B&W GYM.I AM SURE THE ACTUAL NUMBER REACHES INTO THE HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS.PERSONALLY SPEAKING I CAN TELL YOU THAT WITHOUT DENNIS GUIDING ME AS A YOUTH I WOULD PROBABLY BE SITTING IN A PRISON CELL SOMEWHERE TODAY. HE TOOK AN INTEREST IN ME AT AN EARLY AGE AND MADE ME WANT TO BE THE BEST THAT I COULD BE.THAT WASNT A DIVISION I BALL PLAYER,IT WASNT THE STRONGEST KID ON THE TEAM,IT WASNT EVEN A STARTER. BUT IT WAS A KID THAT LEFT LANE WITH MORE SELF CONFIDENCE,PRIDE AND INTEGRITY THAN HE STARTED WITH. YOU KNOW HIS RECORD SPEAKS VOLUMES BUT WHAT LANE IS REALLY GOING TO MISS OUT ON IS THE FACT THAT HE IS SOMEONE THAT HAS THE ABILITY TO MOLD KIDS INTO PRIDE DRIVEN YOUNG MEN. IF YOU ASK ME HE SHOULDNT HAVE BEEN FIRED, HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN LEADING THE PROGRAM AS THE HEAD VARSITY COACH.....MAYBE THAT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THIS BULL....ITS A SAD DAY IN LANE TECH HISTORY....JUST REMEMBER WHERE EVER YOU GO WHATEVER YOU DO REMEMBER THE HONOR OF LANE... MARK (JAKE) JACOBS 1982
CommentsHere's a poem I would like the man and persons responsible for Dennis Brady getting fired yesterday to read. And, I ask for all people affected by Dennis Brady to not sit quietly and voice their displeasure with this farce.. Walter Brzeski '83 The Guy in the Glass by Dale Wimbrow, (c) 1934 When you get what you want in your struggle for pelf, And the world makes you King for a day, Then go to the mirror and look at yourself, And see what that guy has to say. For it isn't your Father, or Mother, or Wife, Who judgement upon you must pass. The feller whose verdict counts most in your life Is the guy staring back from the glass. He's the feller to please, never mind all the rest, For he's with you clear up to the end, And you've passed your most dangerous, difficult test If the guy in the glass is your friend. You may be like Jack Horner and "chisel" a plum, And think you're a wonderful guy, But the man in the glass says you're only a bum If you can't look him straight in the eye. You can fool the whole world down the pathway of years, And get pats on the back as you pass, But your final reward will be heartaches and tears If you've cheated the guy in the glass.
CommentsLast 4 years of Lane Tech Football... Varsity..... Rio 31-15 (67% winning percentage) -1 City Championship Sophomore Brady 42-5 (89% winning percentage) - 3 City Championships
CommentsEveryone is entitled to their personal opinion regarding Brady being fired. I personal am glad he is gone. While Brady might had been a good citizen and capable of winning games. He was not a fair coach. As far as Brady final address” To all my current and past players I bid a very fond farewell. It was an honor and a privilege to have worked with all of you over the past nine years. I will leave this program with many fond memories, and no matter where I coach in the future, my heart will always be with Lane Tech football. I hope you will stay in touch, and hope to see many of you in the future. Feel free to stop by the gym, and any help I can give you in terms of your lifting I will do so gladly. I want you all to succeed, and achieve your maximum potential in football.” The only thing that believe is the part of him saying is to stop by the gym “that is so he can get a new member. Coach Brady didn’t show any concern s for his players unless you were one of the chosen ones. He never even spoke to his players he was too arrogant!!!! He had several injured players he never once asked how either of them was doing he didn’t care. He one many occasions ignored his players, he only had majority of negative comments to his players. COACH BRADY ALLOWED A SIDELINE COACHING, OVER BEARRING, HARAASING FATHER TO INTERFER WITH HIS 2006 SOPHMORE TEAM. Coach Brady might have in the past been what the Lane Tech community wanted, but the current Lane Tech community base I believe majority are okay with him leaving. Yes it sad to see anyone leave that has history in any organization but any good organization has to do what is best for the not the individual. Kudos to Coach Rich Rios! For doing what was needed. Children deserve to be respected and treated fair. Coach Brady and staff failed to do that in 2006. One other thing- winning is not everything; it is about the children and their self esteem. He had several players that played, some started some didn’t but they all gave 110% percent effort but that was not enough for Coach Brady.
CommentsTo: Walter Brzeski '83 You may have fond memories of Coach Brady , they current palyers and the ones in the past tw years do not agree with you. I your poem is said"But your final reward will be heartaches and tears If you've cheated the guy in the glass" Brady himself will receive that award. That poem can also be a dedication to Coach Brady for what he did as well.
CommentsI'm disppointed you didn't feel you received the same experience which other shared with Coach Brady over the course of 25+ years of service to Lane Tech in some manner. And, you're right when you assert one individual doesn't make the entire program. However, I've known Coach Brady for 25+ years and in my opinion he has always been a good listener, teacher, friend, supporter, coach, and person to be involved with at any facet of life. Also, I believe Coach Brady is always trying to better those around him with 'cutting-edge' ideas and improvements. When I played for Coach Sam Bronswick, I didn't appreciate the things he did for us as I do now and I blame that on me for not understanding his efforts. And, from your writings this sounds like this may be the case for you as well. Walter Brzeski '83
CommentsOne thing though about Coach Brady trying to get players to join his gym in his farewell statement....I think I still owe him $120 for working out there and I'm sure others do as well. Coach Brady never asked me for the money and I'm sure there are hundreds others that he never asked for money they owed as well. Coach Brady was never and will never be about money. Coach Brady is about the success of LANE TECH FOOTBALL. And, maybe if you would like to meet with me and we can iron out any problems you might have had with Coach Brady and come to a common understanding. Please let me know. Walter Brzeski '83
CommentsTO: Walter Brzeski '83 In response to your last comment" When I played for Coach Sam Bronswick, I didn't appreciate the things he did for us as I do now and I blame that on me for not understanding his efforts. And, from your writings this sounds like this may be the case for you as well" I highly doubt that well be my feelings in years to come. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger right. Coach Brady has taught a good lesson regarding: riding people’s coat tails, or butt kissing: it might pay off. Sorry to say I’ll have pass on that technique. I agree with you that Coach Brady has taught me a life lessons, but is not a positive one. Our personal experience with Coach Brady makes us view him as to different people
CommentsTO: Walter Brzeski '83 Responding to: maybe if you would like to meet with me and we can iron out any problems you might have had with Coach Brady and come to a common understanding. Like I said before those are my personal opinions regarding Coach Brady, same as you have you personal opinion regarding Coach Brady: in which we both are entitled to. I do not respect him nor do I like him and will choose to leave it at that. As far as you owing money $120 to Coach Brady that is what was done for you’re not others. Maybe you and some people you know were part of” the chosen ones camp “Coach Brady is a part of history for Lane Tech – Let’s leave at that. My problems with Coach Brady can’t be ironed out “I am too wrinkled of him.

CommentsTo: Unknown Person of Postings Unfortunately, this guestbook is setup where one doesn't have to identify oneself and I consider this unfair for a person to receive 'pot-shots' without knowing his accuser. I believe a lot what you have written would be have more 'ethos' if you were to give your name. But, and I think you'll agree, nobody will put much weight on comments where someoene doesn't take any responsibility for them. and, if you are part of faction doesn't want Dennis Brady as aprt of Lane Tech Football, please let us all know who you are. In my postings, while some people may have agreed with me, I took the responsiblity for my words by applying my name. Again, I offer to meet with you to discuss Coach Brady and the direction of Lane Tech Football. Please accept my offer. Walter Brzeski '83
CommentsTO :Walter Brzeski '83 Are you active in the current Lane Tech Football Sophomore Team? Did you attend the 2006, 2005 games or practices regularly? Did you attend the 2006 Football Banquet? If no, shut up then! The Past is the past we are talking about the present and the future. If you did attend then maybe you might have a current valid opinion but I believe that your are stuck in past! Signed wouldn’t you like to know?
CommentsP.S. This Guestbook not and Acknowledge book. Opinions are just that, opinions not facts. I did not have signed anything if I do not want too. Just like you will not shut up and I want you too!!
CommentsWell, maybe, I just buy a box of sunflower seeds and leave them at Lane for you to have as a peace offering. Now, it's time top me to back to the adult's table. Walter Brzeski '83
CommentsI prefer pistachios, the plan ones... I’m done and I hope that you are too.
CommentsTo: Unknown Poster.......No to all your questions. But, now I have to go back to the adult table. As a peace offering I'm going to have a box of sunflower seeds left for you at Lane. Just pick them using the name Mr. X or Miss
Commentsc'mon N, you're no fun WB 83
CommentsWB 83 WHAT DOES THE N STAND FOR? c'mon N, you're no fun WB 83
CommentsI think it is common knowledge that the N in "c'mon N" stands for the word Now. So in other words he was trying to say come on now, your no fun
CommentsWB OF '83 in your message board you had this to say"Neil, I was hoping to get a person not involved with the everyday 'going-ons' at Lane to give their perspective. And, believe me, I wasn't trying to get you say something about anything. I just believe that a lot decisions are made by members on 'in-crowd' at Lane and it doesn't seem alumni, parents, or the students have much input. Also, I truly believe if more alumni, parents, and students are involved in decisions then Lane will be the model school of which you have described in earlier postings. One, thing I would suggest is having Lane art students paint the outside of the Lane Stadium. Everyone knows of the shape the stadium is in, but, the outside (where everyone sees a they pass) looks horrible. The students could paint murals on the outside brick and cover all the grafitti. And, to protect their work, I would suggest the artwork is protected by large pieces of 'scre-down clear plastic sheets. Another thing I would suggest is to get more coaches to be from inside of the building. This would help as the coaches would become more involved with the students and help them during school hours. And, I would suggest limiting the amount of part-time coaches or coaches that are just there to 'wear the shirt.' A third thing I would do is emphasize the importance of getting scholarships for athletes and publicize this so future Lane students can aim for a free college education. Also, I would suggest Lane become more pro-active in terms of nutrition for their students. Instead of the fatty, fried and junk food served in the lunchroom, I would suggest a huge salad bar with smart food choices for breakfast and lunch. An example would be grilled chicken with a baked potato as opposed to fried chicken with mashed potatoes. Hopefully, others will see my suggestions and add a few as well. Regards, Walter Brzeski '83 So, with your comments being exposed; Coach Brady was not an inside the building Coach so why all of your hoopla? Your are obliviously a very bored and unhappy person trying to coop with adult hood. No matter what you think there is a reason to be discrete. So call me N, Mr. or Miss X what ever you like it’s your opinion. Again, have a great life…..
CommentsMr. X: The only thing I will say in reference to your last post is without authoring your statements you have no ETHOS (source credibility) and I really will not take you serious until you do......Walter Brzeski '83

CommentsAgain, I will expose you ” Do you recall posting this ‘Mr. WB’83 Mark, I need to correct myself..... Right now, it looks like out of 22 football coaches at Lane that there's only 3-4 coaches that are from inside the building. I'm not sure about the other teams. Walter Brzeski '83 Again, you are in touch with past. I agree that players of the past may have THE SAME OPINION AS YOU AS FAR Brady is concerned maybe even a few current players or recent player still players within the last three years a lot of them do agree with the opinion that you have of Coach Brady.
CommentsTo: WB’83 The Federal Witness Security Program is intended for crucial witnesses, whose prospective testimony puts them in immediate danger. Since its inception in 1970, more than 7,500 witnesses and more than 9,500 witness family members have entered the program and have been protected, relocated and given new identities by the U.S. Marshals Service. CommentsI have been a football coach at Lane Tech for the past nine years. I started at the freshmen level and have been a varsity football assistant for the past eight years. I have seen a number of coaches come and go over the years. I know the decision made by Coach Rio to let Dennis Brady go was not an easy decision. It had nothing to do with Dennis as a person. Dennis is a fine upstanding person with great character. Dennis will always be a member of the Lane Tech family. It is my understanding that the decision to let Dennis go had to do with the downward direction Coach Rio thought the program was going. Alot has been said about the number of sophmore City Championships that were won under Dennis as if that was the measure of success. The goal at Lane Tech is not to win sophmore City Championships or even varsity City Championships. If the goal at Lane Tech was to win sophmore City Championships Lane would have kept as head coach the previous three head sophmore football coaches who also won sohpmore City Championships. In fact the Chicago Football Committe which is under the direction of the Chicago Public Schools has recognized the harmfull effect sophmore football City Championships may have on the City of Chicago from producing a State Championship in football and just eliminated sophmore football City Championships. Keep in mind that football in the City of Chicago is struggling with the number of kids participating being down. The far majority of the successful football programs in the Chicago Public School already have their sophmores playing on the varsity level. The goal at Lane Tech is to first prepare young men to become responsible adults, second to go on to college and third to win a State Football Championship. The problem with instilling these goals is due the fact that such a large number of sophmore football players don't go out for varsity football or drop out very early in their junior year. For a number of reasons they were not prepared for the varsity level and that was the failure of the sophmore football program. Hopefully, this difficult decision will improve the Lane Tech Football Program. Best wishes and good luck to Dennis Brady. His dedication and commitment will never be forgotten. Coach Art Fiumetto
CommentsTO:Coach Art Fiumetto WELL SAID-
CommentsAs a former player at Lane Tech and a now former coach at Lane Tech I want to say that all that is being said about the program and how the sophomore program was not living up to the "expectations" is a ridiculous statement. As a former sophomore coach, we treated those players as young men and gave them every bit of respect that we expected from them. We did not degrade any kid in any way, and tried to make an impact in the lives of these young men that goes deeper then football. We tried to make sure that these young men became good football players yes, but most importantly good human beings. As a coach and a future teacher, I have the philosophy of treating other human beings as I would like to be treated, and when I have children, how I would like them to be treated. The blame is being put on the Sophomore football staff for not “preparing” the kids to play football on the varsity level, but not once is the way kids are treated on the varsity level looked at as a reason why so many players decide to end their high school football playing careers early. No one likes to be humiliated, degraded, talked down to, and embarrassed. Through my experiences as a player and as a coach on the lower levels getting to watch and listen to the varsity, that kind of behavior happens frequently, and is unacceptable. Having played for Coach Brady and also working under Coach Brady, he was the best coach I have ever had. He knew the game of football and most importantly he knew how to bring out the best in his players. Having this quality is one of the most important qualities that a coach must have, and Dennis Brady definitely has this gift. In response to some of the things that have been posted, as a member of the coaching staff of the 2006 Sophomore City Championship winning team, I am truly offended. We made our decisions as a staff for the optimal benefit of the TEAM. We instilled the concept of TEAM and FAMILY within our team and in the end, that is what carried us over the hump. Anyone who saw our team play this season knows that we were faced with a great deal of adversity and many situations that definitely were not in our favor, and in spite all of those situations, our kids found it within themselves to find a way to win and come out on top. These instances brought out the best in these players and it is something they can carry with them the rest of their lives. You only have one Sophomore football season and to take those accomplishments away from those young men is unacceptable. They were faced with a challenge and with the guidance of their coaches and the lessons and character that we helped them expose, they succeeded. If it is wrong to help a 15 or 16 year old young man build character then yes we deserve to be fired. We worked extremely hard for those young men and they worked just as hard for us. It was clear that our efforts were appreciated through the warm reception we received from our players and parents at our banquet, and unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the staff of the higher levels. That is an instance that says a lot about the program and maybe there needs to be some reflection on ones own actions before the blame is put on to others. As for the claim that Sophomore football championships are harmful to the Chicago Public School’s chances of winning a state championship, that claim does not make much sense. If one examines successful programs that have won State Championships, all of these programs have Sophomore football programs and all of their conferences have conference champions at the Sophomore level. Also, when one looks at the rosters of these premier programs, there are very few if any sophomores on the varsity rosters. These programs build from the bottom up. Freshmen play on the freshmen team, sophomore play on the sophomore team, and juniors and seniors play on the varsity team. Sophomore City championships have nothing to do with the lack of success of city teams in the state playoffs, I think this is a reflection on the lack of quality football coaches citywide. The city is graced with plethora of exceptional athletes who go on to play at big time universities, but unfortunately for the kids, there are not enough quality coaches willing to coach in the city. I mean no disrespect to anyone with what I have written, but someone who has experienced things from both the player and coach perspective within this program needed to speak up and talk about what they think. To the players and parents of the 2006 Sophomore City Championship team, I want to say thank you very much for all of your support. It is good to see that all of our hard work is not going unappreciated and I wish you all the best of luck in all of your future endeavors. I know all of you are going to make great additions to society.
CommentsI don't know what coach Rio was thinking when he fired Coach Brady. If anything Coach Rio should take some notes from Coach Brady. A reason Lane Tech will never do anything in state is because Coach Rio fails to realize that he has enough good players to have an offense and a defense but instead has 6-7-8 players play bith ways. Coach Brady on the other half, knows that he has a good enough team to have an offense and defense and has not one player have to play both ways. Also varsity takes up the sophmores' best players and Coach Brady still makes his teams championship bound teams. Coach Brady is the heart and soul of the Lane Tech football family. The players of the Lane Tech football are who they are because of Coach Brady. So thank you Coach Brady for your good coaching. You will be missed by the whole Lane Tech football family.
CommentsWHEN I FIRST HEARD THAT COACH BRADY AND HIS STAFF WERE FIRED, I WAS JUST AS SHOCKED AS SOME OF THESE PEOPLE ARE. BRADY WAS MY COACH IN THE 2005 FOOTBALL SEASON. THAT YEAR WAS ONE OF THE BEST EXPERIENCES THAT I HAD PALYING FOOTBALL AT LANE. NOT ONLY WAS BRADY, ALONG WITH HIS STAFF, <A GREAT COACH> BUT THEY WERE GREAT GUYS. FROM WHAT I KNOW COACH BRADY IS A GREAT GUY. TO HEAR THAT HE IS THE PROBLEM FOR THE VARSITY TEAM IS NOT TRUE AT ALL. BRADY AND HIS COACHING STAFF LED US TO A GREAT CITY CHAMP. AND AN ALMOST UNDEFEATED SEASON. THE ONLY LOSS WE HAD WAS TO LOCKPORT. AFTER THAT, WE ONLY WORKED HARDER AND GOT BETTER. BEAT EVERY TEAM IN OUR SCHDULE WITH 7 SHUT OUTS. TO THAT PERSON WHO SAYS THAT ITS OKAY BRADY WAS FIRED...(HE WAS PROBABLY A BENCH WARMER) CAOCH BRADY, IF U READ THIS...I WANT TO LET U KNO THAT I THINK UR A GREAT COACH AND A GREAT PERSON. ALL THE GUYS FROM THE 2005 TEAM SUPPORT U AND WISH U THE BEST OF LUCK IN THE FUTURE. WE WILL ALL REMEMBER U AS A COACH WHO DID MAKE A DIFFERENCE -ELVIS VEIZI CLASS OF "08"
CommentsBrady= great coach Brady > Varsity Coches! Firing Brday < not good for Lane
Commentsmaybe brady should get hired as the new head coach!
Commentsto anyone reading these posts that are not up to date on the subject should easily see that the sophomore staff was obviously not on the same page as the varsity staff. When you have coach Brady slamming the varsity staff and coach Rio, what took this incident so long to take place. One, if Dennis was so unhappy about who he coached for why did't he leave before he got fired. As in life if you dont approve of what your boss is doing maybe it's not the place for you. Second, to the new coach and also former player, your pal Brady was not so keen on discipline (eg) how do you have a player admittingly steal a cell phone from another player and nothing is done about it. Nevermind the fact that this same kid that stole the phone received and award from the head coach Dennis Brady. How do you reward a kid with a trophy after an incident like that. This former athlete/coach, failed to let the people of this forum know that he was a three year player until he quit on his fellow teammates only after one game. In my opinion, if I was the head coach as Rich Rio is and a former player quit on me when he played, it's obvious he's not going to be a team player as a coaching figure. The one thing that I do know as a fact is that the entire staff on the sophomore level was not a FAMILY. That word FAMILY means a lot to me because it was started by my uncle. How could a staff express the word FAMILY, all the while stabbing the varsity level and head coach in the back at the same time. The firing was long overdue. Dennis Brady is a great guy and has a lot to offer a school that he respects. Brady looked at his program as a self-serving program. Whenever a kid was promoted to the varsity level while on his team he took it as a personal attack. He never looked at it as a great accomplishment to the kid and the work ethic the kid has. Thye final statement that I have to make today to anyone that is reading this is, if anyone thinks that the varsity level is not the place for underclassmen than you dont know about the competive level that should be desired by one. Yes we beat Morgan Park 8-6 in the sophomore city championship, but the biggest secret about that was MOrgan Park had SEVEN sophomores playing for the varsity. Those seven sophomores played three state games, and in two years from now they will benefit greatly from it.
CommentsAdding to pervious person comments- Brady stated that the 2006 sophomore city championship was won by a player who he had given the mvp award to that happened to be his new pal's son. Anyone at that game SEEN that another kid won that game. Morgan Park knew that Lane wasn't doing much on offense so they took a safety. To their surprise another running back on the special teams ran it back which is why Lane won. Let Brady tell it the MVP did all the work. All who were present at the game seen the MVP was on the bench. Also, prior to the running back that broke his arm he was the work horse when it came to running the ball on offense along with the QB, and several other players. Brady only mentioned his new pal's son. I believe that the injured running back or the quarter back should have received that award not his new pal’s son. Just take a look at this past season’s tapes, Brady award was given based on friendship.
CommentsI am just really ashamed of some of the B.S. I am reading. By the way to the Einstein that thinks his uncle created the term FAMILY Should Know That phrase has been around athletic programs all over this country for the last 75 years....It is this type of blind leading the blind mantality that has put the varsity program in the deficient state it is in....RIO AND HIS FAMILY NEEDS TO GO!!!!!!! I THINK SCHURZ MIGHT BE LOOKING FOR A COACH.
CommentsThis past week wrestling scores Lane Tech 63 Von Steuben 9. Lane Tech 78 Lake View 6 (their 6 pts. came from a forfeit)
CommentsMorgan Park team had 7 sophmores on varsity team, looking at Lane's varsity team roster I see they 5 sophmores and a freshmen . It hardly seems to be a significant point.

CommentsI response to the "weights don't hit back comment.: Tell that to Stevenson who hit the varsity REAL hard. I am willing to bet when that class of seniors came in they were not too strong, but evolved overtime with quality and consistent lifting. Tell that to any of the final 4 teams in classes 1A-8A. Weights do SO MUCH more than make you strong. They prevent injury, build teamwork, make you stronger mentally, more explosive, and is one of the key ingrediants to becoming an excellent football player. I could go on and on as would any quality/intelligent high school, college, or pro coach. Until this is TRULY valued by the leader of the program, the AD/Head Coach, and monitored and followed through with, Lane and any other program that is loaded with talent will not succeed in the state playoffs. Because that is the ultimate test for IL HS football. Not the prep bowl and not the "city championship," but the state championship. Winning the city title or prep bowl is like being the valedictorian or summer school. No one really cares!
CommentsAs the former player and coach, I am offended by the comments that were made in response to my post. My quitting was for the sole reason that the coaching staff that I played for took out all of the fun from the game that I had once loved to play. Also, before I made the decsion to quit, I consulted my teammates and they agreed with my decision and had no hard feelings. In reality, many of those teammates that I had I think gained even more respect for me because I refused to do something that was no longer FUN for me and something that I was getting nothing out of. To this day I remain extremely close with the majority of my teammates from that team. I think it is hard for someone to even comment on any decsion I made, especially when they never once stepped foot on a football field with a helmet and shoulder pads on. So please, before you decide to personally attack me, look in the mirror and ask yourself about who you are before you criticize someone else. I made the right decsion to QUIT the football team, and to this day I stand by my decision and have no regrets.
CommentsCoach, don't worry about guys that weren't tough enough to play football. If he didn't have a hold to his father's belt loop, he would fall on his lemonhead face. And, his father could never fill the shoes of his brother.
CommentsYeah, the kid is an imbecile!!!
CommentsIf Lane Tech Sports is going to move forward then things need to be explained to all the parents and students in a public forum, not just a video feed on the internet. I suggest Rich Rio organize a public forum with everyone invloved in LANE TECH SPORTS to attend and hear first-hand where the sports program is headed. Further, besides giving the overall plan, I suggest people be given the opportunity to ask questions and to seek help in understanding the opportunities for their children. (Have a signup sheet for people with something to say, limit each person to two minutes with a chance to schedule an appointment to voice themselves, setup parameters for speakers, and announce the event enough in advance so people will have a chance to be there. And, avoid making this a 'hush-hush' forum for only a selective few to attend.) Plus, make this a productive forum and not a 'beef session'. And, have each team meet separately with each head coach in different parts of the building. In addition, each member of the Lane Tech Athletic Staff should be present to discuss the directions of each of their areas. And, Principal Lobosco should be present, along with the administrative staff, to enlighten the Lane Tech Community of their visions. MovingForwardtotheFuture
CommentsAs the parent of a Lane frshmen football player, I must say I was confused, shocked and then outraged by the firing of coach Brady and his staff. My first introduction to coach Brady was when I saw him at the 3 day freshmen camp held last June. I was immediately impressed with the program, and was glad my son was a part of it. I remember the last day of the camp, where coach Brady talked to the players with many of us parents present. He stressed to the players that this was a four year deal and that while they had the raw talent to be state champions , it wouldn't come without four yeasr of hard work and them staying together as a team. He then handed out packets of info for all the players which included contact phone numbers for him. He also announced that he would hold a clinic the following week so the players could get a start on a lifting program before they came back in August. I attended that clinic with my son as well, and once again was very impressed. He spent almost two hours explaining and teaching how important this was for their football success. Again, at the conclusion, he pounded home again, four years , stay together as a team. During the course of my sons freshmen season, I saw coach Brady and several members of his staff at almost every game. They were very visible to the players and the parents. I also noticed there seemed to be a very close working relationship between the freshmen and sophomore staffs.I was looking forward to having my son coached by these men the following year, especially in light of the success they had this season. My son was also very positive about next season. In fact he told me they were already starting lifting at school , and once again, who was the coach in the weight room, coach Brady. Now I learn coach Brady and his staff have been fired. Now my son doesn't know if he wants to play football. It doesn't take a genius to see that there is a problem. The sophomore team had fifty players and was successful, the varsity team had 40 players, way more coaches and was not.You have to just shake your head and wonder what's going on.

WHAT A SPOKESMEN....I AM IMPRESSED....I THINK IT IS TIME TO CIRCULATE A VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE...WE NEED TO SET UP A WAY TO GET ENOUGH SIGNATURES TO HAVE RIO REMOVED FROM THE PROGRAM.THE MAN WANTS TO RECRUIT ATHLETES FROM THE EIGHTH GRADE ...DOES HE NOT REALIZE HE WORKS FOR THE PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM NOT THE CATHOLIC LEAGUE. LETS SEE.... RECRUIT KIDS FROM THE EIGHTH GRADE FOR THE PUPOSE OF ATHLETICS (ILLEGAL!!!!) INSTEAD OF DEVELOPING THE KIDS THAT NATURALLY FALL INTO YOUR SCHOOL. IT SOUNDS LIKE BRADY WAS THE ONLY GROUNDED PART OF THIS ORGANIZATION...WHERE IS THE PARENTS CLUB ON THIS ..WHERE IS THE BOOSTERS CLUB...WHERE THE HELL IS THE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION...THE PARENTS THAT HAVE THE KIDS IN THE PROGRAM AT THIS POINT NEED TO BE THE LOUDEST VOICES...ORGANIZE BEFORE IT IS TO LATE....I PREDICT THAT RIO WITHOUT BRADY IS A RECIPE FOR DISASTER...HE COULDNT EVEN CONTINUE TO WIN WITH THE KIDS THAT BRADY WON WITH WHEN BRADY WAS STILL A COACH, HOW IN THE HELL IS HE GONNA WIN WITHOUT BRADY DEVELOPING THE KIDS BEFORE HE GETS THEM. I CAN SEE THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT IS SITTING AROUND WONDERING WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED...WELL I GOT TIRED OF THAT SO I STARTED ASKING QUESTIONS. SOME OF THE ANSWERS LEAD ME TO BELIEVE THAT THE REASON BRADY IS GONE IS BECAUSE RIO HAS AN EGO THAT WILL NOT ALLOW HIM TO ADMIT WHEN HE IS WRONG...ALUMNI AND CURRENT PLAYER PARENTS HOLD THE KEY TO RIO BEING REMOVED FROM THE LANE TECH PROGRAM ...IT IS TIME TO ORGANIZE AND TAKE THE WORD TO THE STREETS.... "FOOTBALL IS A GAME OF INCHES THEY ARE AT EVERY TURN OF THE GAME... EVERY MOMENT OF THE GAME...ONE STEP TO SLOW AND YOU MISS IT.... ONE STEP TO FAST AND YOU MISS IT......IT IS THE SIX INCHES IN FRONT OF YOUR FACE THAT IS GONNA MAKE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LIVING AND DYING....BETWEEN WINNING AND LOOSING...ON THIS TEAM WE FIGHT FOR THOSE INCHES.... ON THIS TEAM WE TEAR UP EVERYTHING AND EVERY ONE AROUND US FOR THOSE INCHES...WE GOTTA DECIDE RIGHT NOW....DO WE FIGHT AS A TEAM.... OR DO WE DIE AS INDIVIDUALS" WE NEED TO FIGHT AS A TEAM AND GAIN THOSE INCHES THAT WILL ALLOW US TO BUILD THE LANE TECH FOOTBALL PROGRAM INTO THE DYNASTY IT ONCE WAS...THAT AINT RECRUITING EIGHTH GRADERS....IT AINT FIRING A PROVEN COACHING STAFF LIKE BRADY AND HIS CREW.....AND IT AINT AS INDIVIDUALS....SO AS A TEAM WE NEED TO GO OUT AND DO THE ONE THING THAT WILL BRING THIS PROGRAM BACK AROUND TO THE DYNASTY IT WAS AND THAT IS REMOVING RIO FROM THE DRIVERS SEAT!!!!! WHATTA YA THINK??
CommentsIt is sad day for Lane Tech when we lose someone like Dennis Brady. Here is person who for almost 40 years has been devoted to the school he graduated from is 1971. He has donated countless hours to betterment of the school and its athletes, especially the football team. Anyone who thinks he is doing this for anything but to honor his school does not have clue of who he is or what he is about. I have seen several positive comments from past players and parents, many who have put their names where all can see. Those who have made negative comments hide who they are as they are by far in the minority. I encourage all past players and their parents to share their views and do what ever is necessary to keep Dennis at Lane where he belongs. Contact the school's pricipal, the board of education and whoever else is necessary to correct this mistake, before it is too late.
Comments(TAKEN DIRECTLT FROM WWW.LANETECHFOOTBALL.COM).... --------------------------------------------------- Luis Munoz 12/09/2006 09:18 h To Moving Forward, Our guest book is not a blog. If you want to identify yourself and talk football, I'll be more than happy to exchange thoughts and ideas. Otherwise, you'll be removed from the guest book. Thanks. Coach Luis -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MovingForward 12/09/2006 06:49 h If Lane Tech Sports is going to move forward then things need to be explained to all the parents and students in a public forum, not just a video feed on the internet. And, have each team meet separately with each head coach in diffeent parts of the building. In addition, each member of the Lane Tech Athletic Staff should be present to discuss the directions of each of their areas. And, Principal Lobosco should be present, along with the administrative staff, to enlighten the Lane Tech Community of their visions.
CommentsWhat needs to be done other than people expressing their displeasure with Rio on the boards is people need to start contacting Lobosco. See, he'll try to weather the storm with the attacks on the boards. But, people calling, mailing, and speaking with Lobosco is something he fears. Plus, the more parents that call him on the state of the program and the firing of Brady is another thing he's VERY uncomfortable with having to do. He HATES answering to anyone, especially since Foley is gone. It's time to get rid of him, the 'family' at Lane, and the 'Old Boys Network". I urge everyone in the Lane Tech Community to get involved and not to fear retribution. Rio leaving is the best thing for Lane Tech.
CommentsHas anyone noticed that the Lane Tech Football Booster Club's officers are/were all Lane Football Coaches, except one guy? (He's from the 1977 Lane football team) Whatever happened to the Lane Tech Football Parents Club? How was Rich Rio made football coach? Did he name himself coach? Does the varsity football team need 11 coaches with only 40 players?
CommentsI AGREE IT IS TIME TO REMOVE RIO!!!LETS GET A COMPUTER WIZ TO SET UP A WEB SITE THAT ALUMNI CAN SIGN INTO.TAKE THE RESULTS TO THE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATIONAND DUMP IT IN THEIR LAP... THE ALUMNI SHOULD LEAVE THEIR NAME AND YEAR FOR VALIDATION.PARENTS ARE A DIFFERENT STORY MAYBE A PIN # THAT COULD BE ID BY A NEUTRAL PARTY IF NEED BE...YOU GET THE IDEA..WE ARE NOT STUDENTS UNDER HIS THUMB WE HAVE A VOICE IT SHOULD BE HEARD...LETS GET IT WHERE IT BELONGS IN THE OFFICE OF THE PRINCIPAL AND SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION....SO ANY COMPUTER WIZ TAKERS???
CommentsCongrats to Tog Ganbold 119 and Jamelle Williams 160 on placing 4th in the Wheeling Tournament this past Saturday.
CommentsSomewhere, Coach Karlov and Coach Bronswick have to be smiling with the mess Rio created for himself.
CommentsIn defense of Rich Rio, recruiting 8th graders in general is not illegal. Of course there are ethical ways to identify and attract 8th grade athletes to Lane and there are unethical ways of doing it. Rio is only stressing the ethical ways. I think we can all agree that developing and attracting athletic talent to Lane is just as important as developing them once they arrive at Lane. For example, Rick Malnati, teh head basketball coach at New Trier holds basketball camps for 6th-8th graders during the off season. There, he instills his philosohy to his basketball players at a young age and identifies the ones most capable of contribuitng to his program in the futre. One person he identified early was a 6'5" freshman guard by the name of Alex Rossi and is now one of the top players in the state for the class of 2010. I think what Rio was trying to say is that he supports activities that promotes and identifies talent for Lane Tech BEFORE they got to Lane. For example, Varsity basketball coach Leroy Jarka runs a summer camp for 5th-8th graders and alos has an incoming freshman pizza party. It is these kinds of activiites that Rio supports. Also, the interview by Rich Rio was conducted on November 26, 2006- well before the incident of last week. So it was not a response. Rather it was just a simple interview regarding the state of Lane Tech athletics. --- Neil Hernandez, Publisher
CommentsGordon Tech still producing top talent (http://www.suntimes.com/sports/preps/166144,CST-SPT-prep10.article December 10, 2006 BY TINA AKOURIS Staff Reporter Gordon Tech had a rough football season. The Rams finished 0-9 one year after making the state playoffs for the second consecutive season and advancing to the quarterfinals. But a bright spot came a week ago, when cornerback-free safety-wide receiver-kick returner Patrick George made an oral commitment to Northern Illinois. George's commitment made him the third Gordon Tech football player in two seasons to earn a Division I scholarship. The other two are David Rivas and Tommie Westbrook, who are at Illinois State. ''All the schools I visited were great places, but I felt comfortable [at NIU],'' said George, who plans to major in criminal justice. Gordon Tech coach Bill Jeske said he knew that George would be a Division I recruit when he was a sophomore. Even when college coaches came to see Rivas and Westbrook, Jeske kept reminding them to check out George. That persistence paid off. NIU offered George a scholarship last spring. Jeske said that George is one of the most athletic players he has coached in his 19-year career. So much so that Jeske had George playing on both sides of the ball for his entire three-year varsity career. ''I've never seen anybody like him, and that's a compliment to his parents,'' Jeske said. The 5-11, 185-pound George also plays basketball and runs track. He is a two-time state qualifier in the 100- and 200-meter dashes and placed seventh last spring in the 200. George has more of a track background than football. His parents ran track at Wichita State, and George's sister, Regina, is a sophomore track and cross-country runner at Gordon Tech. George's parents wanted him to focus on track, but football was all George's decision. He started playing Pop Warner football at age 9. ''I remember during Thanksgiving the Cowboys were playing and I asked, 'You get to hit people without getting in trouble?''' George said. Rivas, a redshirt freshman defensive lineman at Illinois State, said he was glad he was a part of the Gordon Tech team that went to the playoffs in 2005. ''I didn't think I was an underdog, I thought I was an overdog, that I would get to a big school,'' Rivas said. ''I learned a lot of things [from Jeske], like how to work hard and stay committed to something and be a family and a football team at the same time.'' Westbrook, a redshirt linebacker, credited Jeske with instilling a strong work ethic, which Westbrook thinks helped produce the three Division I players. ''What a lot of people don't know about [Jeske] is he works nights,'' Westbrook said. ''So after a late game, he goes to work. He instilled in us family [values] and showed support to me when my dad was sick last year.'' While the focus is on Brother Rice, St. Rita and Mount Carmel in the Catholic League, Westbrook points out that Gordon Tech quietly has developed quality athletes. ''We're not trying to be Mount Carmel, but we're trying to live up to our name,'' Westbrook said. ''We can produce athletes.'' George said he looked up to Rivas and Westbrook last season and saw how hard they worked. George figured if he did the same, he also would be rewarded with a scholarship. Rivas, Westbrook and George are only three players who have benefitted from the Gordon Tech football tradition. Under coach Tom Winiecki, who coached at Gordon Tech from 1966 to '96, the Rams were part of the school's ''Decade of Champions'' and had one of the stronger football teams in the city. The football team won a state championship in 1980 -- Jeske was an offensive lineman on that team -- and a Prep Bowl title in 1982. The Rams also won Catholic League titles in basketball, baseball, football, tennis, wrestling, cross-country and soccer from 1972 to '82. The school won state fencing titles in 1977 and 1980. Winiecki said Gordon Tech always has produced quality football talent. ''Before we entered the Illinois High School Association [the Catholic League was not a part of the IHSA until 1974], a lot of our kids were D-I players,'' Winiecki said. ''We used to have spring football, and it gave players a leg up. We were fortunate. For a long time we didn't have to rebuild, we just reloaded.'' But Winiecki said Gordon Tech also succeeded because all the football coaches worked in the building. ''Every time a student-athlete turned around there was a coach in the hallway,'' Winiecki said. ''They knew when to shape up and be good citizens.'' Even though Rivas was confident he would get a football scholarship, he was surprised he ended up at Illinois State with Westbrook. ''I never thought we'd be at the same school together,'' said Rivas, who majors in mass communications and broadcasting. ''We got lucky. It's been fun having someone [from high school] come to the same college as you.'' Westbrook and Rivas watched as the Redbirds went 9-4 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Division I-AA playoffs. Westbrook is excited to start his college football career and said he has Gordon Tech to thank. ''We're proof that with hard work, you can do anything if you set your mind to it,'' he said. takouris@suntimes.com NOTABLE ALUMS Cas Banaszek: Played football at Northwestern and for the San Francisco 49ers. CommentsDuring my time at Lane Tech (82-86) it was Dennis Brady that provided discounted memberships to B&W Gym to all football players. This was at a time that the school's weight facilities were nothing other than old universal machines. His leadership and support instilled the dedication that allowed myself and many others to develop into champion high school football players and college scholarship awardees. Regardless of the conflicts that led to his departure, Dennis is a Lane Tech Indian for life and should be recognized for his invaluable contributions to the Lane Football Program for the past 30 years. Thank you Dennis. Rob Barry, Class of '86
