In 2004 Xavier Torres was an important component in Lane’s
football city championship. But in a team filled with many star players
including All-City Quarterback Couri Benz, receivers Dwayne Pillow (Currently
playing football for Harper
Community College) and
Deon Flowers, and a host of other solid players, Xavier Torres was often
overlooked. But in 2005, with most of the 2004 star players graduating most of
the attention was now focused on Xavier Torres. He did not disappoint his fans.
On defense he played defensive back and often covered the opponents best
receiver. He did a great job shutting down Warren
star Mitchell Moore (Northern Illinois University
signee) in Lane’s playoff game versus Warren
in 2005. On offense coach Rio played Torres
either as a wide receiver or a back with the intention of getting the ball in
his hands as often as he could. His play on the field resulted in Torres being
selected to the all-Public League and fielding strong interest from several
college programs. The Air Force Academy gave Torres an offer but at the end
Torres accepted an offer to pay football for the Central Michigan
University starting in Fall 2006. Good luck and well wishes to Xavier Torres!!!
