  1. Hubbard

Hubbard, a class 6A Semifinalist a year ago, is by far the class of 2006 in the Chicago Public League and will likely be ranked in the top 15 in most Chicago area Pre-Season polls. The Greyhounds boast several Division I athletes including Seniors Sean Cattuso(6’3”, 195lbs), linebacker Justin Hickman (6’4”, 220lbs), and nationally ranked running back Robert Hughes (6’0”- 225lbs). Other stars for Hubbard include DL Jordain Brown (6’0”, 290lbs), DL Keith Otis (6’4”, 235lbs), and DL Brian Thomas(6’0”, 270lbs).

  1. Simeon

Simeon gave heavy favorite Morgan Park a battle last year in the Public League championship game. Simeon will find out quickly where it stands when it plays Fenwick, Bolingbrook and Lane to open the season. If they win those games and Hubbard goes far in the playoffs, Simeon will likely be the favorite to win the Public League. Simeon boasts the states top prospect in Defensive Lineman Martez Wilson(6’4”, 235lbs)  and three year starter junior Jack Ramsey(6’1”, 180lbs). Ramsey is rated by the Chicago Suntimes as one of the top 5 players in the class of 2008.

  1. Lane Tech

Lane lost a disappointing first round Public League Playoff game to Dunbar last year. Also, they graduated one of Lane’s best all around players in years in defensive back/wide receiver Xavier Torres. However Lane returns massive line man Durrel Jamisson to clog up the middle and will rely heavily on its running game led by running backs William Moorehead and Brandon Carter. The key for Lane will be the new senior first year starter quarterback Steve Pienkos.

  1. Morgan Park

Defending Public League and Prep Bowl champion Morgan Park graduated most of their stars including Quarterback Demetrius Jones (Notre Dame). But they do return defensive back Marcus Thomas (6’0”, 180lbs) a University of Illinois signee. The key game for Morgan Park will be their first game of the season when they play East Suburban Catholic Conference power Carmel in Mundelein.

  1. Dunbar

Dunbar has played under the radar the last few seasons in a conference featuring Hubbard, Simeon, and Morgan Park. In 2005 Dunbar knocked out powerful Lane Tech in the first round of the Chicago Public League playoffs.

  1. Harper

Harper, Public League runner up in 2005 is led by Leshawn Ward (5’9”, 175lbs).

  1. Crane

Crane graduates star wide receiver and basketball star Sherron Collins (now at Kansas) but hope to improve with the play of freshman quarterback Robert Stitts.

  1. Curie

Curie is the second best team in the Public Leagues second toughest conference in the Illini Red Bird. So that in itself warrants a top 10 ranking. Curie strength is its running game and it’s kicking game led by kicker Manuel Cisneros.

  1. Robeson

This years Robeson squad is led by one of the areas top juniors in receiver Brandon Green and one of the Public League’s top receiver senior cornerback Charles Brown.

  1. King
