State Championships Won by Lane Tech

 

         Lane Tech is often known as the school of champions. There is a valid reason for having that label. Ever since it’s inception in 1908, Lane has had a championship tradition and a championship expectation. The expectation at Lane is one of excellence to perform to the best ability. This expectation to perform often times results in on-field success through City and State championships.

Steve Bukieda, Lane Cross Country Legend

 

Lane Tech cross country legend Steve Bukieda recently passed away Oct 2006 in Oregon.

 

In it’s long illustrious history Lane Tech won the state cross country championship only one time; that was in 1963-64 under head coach Leonard Jareczek. Leading that team was Steve Bukieda. more...

A Brief History of Boys Softball in the Chicago Public League

                Baseball is known as America’s pastime. Throughout America boys and girls grow up play baseball and softball games. By the high school level, most schools have girls playing softball and boys playing baseball. According to a web page in the IHSA, in the 1998-99 season there were 83 schools nationwide with boys softball teams and 11,452 school nationwide with girls softball teams. In the 2005-2006 sports season the IHSA had listed 328 class AA and 292 class A schools participating in softball.

Bato Govedarica:

Lane Tech, DePaul, and NBA Basketball Star  

Lane Tech has had only two All-State Basketball players in its illustrious history. Ted Annell in 1936 was the first one. The second one, Bato Govedarica, died March 13, 2006 at Hinsdale Hospital. In addition to starring at Lane Tech, Bato Govedarica played for the DePaul Blue Demons under Coach Rey Meyer where he was a Basketball All American He also played in the NBA with the Syracuse Nationals. Gavederica also served in the Korean War and is a member of the DePaul University Hall of Fame, Illinois Basketball Hall of Fame, and the Chicago Public League Coaches Hall of Fame
