Heartbreaker End

Guerin Ends Lane's season after last inning rally falls short

Guerin 4 Lane Tech 3

(Horner Park, Chicago, IL)

Up 2-1 in the top of the 7th inning (and last inning), underdog had one last half inning to add some insurance runs against heavily favored Lane Tech. Well thanks to the help of a pitch that got away from catcher Jonathon Quiles and a costly error by shortstop Joshua Colon, Guerin added 2 big insurance runs to give Guerin a three run lead with only the bottom of the 7th inning remaining.

At the bottom of the 7th, Lane battled furiously back to score 2 runs with two outs and then loaded the bases. Up came, Jonathon Quiles with a chance to make himself a hero. But Guerin, brought in another pitcher (Smith) to face Quiles and got Quiles sto ground out to a freshman 2nd baseman to give Guerin an upset victory over Lane Tech.

In seems like Lane Tech had to battle back in so many games this year. For example, just to make it to the city championship last week, they had to overcome a deficit just to get by Mather in the city semi-finals. But they just did not have enough at the very end.

Congratulations to the Lane Tech varsity baseball season who finished the regular season undefeated in conference and finished runner up to Whitney Young in the Public League.
