On the
Brink of Victory
Lane Tech boys track team
qualifies practically everybody for this Saturday’s city track
championship
(Hansen Stadium; Chicago, IL) The
Chicago Public League held the city championship qualifying boys
varsity track meet on Wed, May 2, 2007. The top 12 in distance
events and field events as well as the top 8 finishers in sprints
and relays qualify for this Saturday’s city track championship
finals. Each school is allowed a maximum of two runners to run in
each running and field events and one relay for every relay event.
Below is a list of events and to my
best knowledge the individuals that qualified:
100- Kenny Blanks, Fuad Salami
200- Fuad Salami + 1 other qualifier
400- Chris Anton (at least)
800- Kevin Beltran, Piotr Brankowski
1600- Kulayfi Haji, Hugo Ramirez
3200- 2 qualifiers
110 High Hurdles- Gerald Turner, Jay
Jordan
300 Intermediate Hurdles- Christopher
Blackmon + 1 other qualifier
4x100- Relay team qualified
4x200- Relay team qualified
4x400- Relay team qualified
4x800- Relay team qualified
Long Jump- Most likely at least one
qualifier
Triple Jump- Jay Jordan (at least)
High Jump- Jason Simmons (at least)
Discus- Sam Pelligrino, Chow
Shot Put- Sam Pelligrino, Chow
Lane Tech qualified more individuals
and relays then any other team. Furthermore, Lane Tech is the
favorite to win or favorite to finish in the top 3 for practically
every single event. Thus Lane Tech is the clear favorite to win the
city championship this Saturday.
I’m not sure what the record is for
points scored in the city championship, but if the Lane Tech runners
run what they are capable of running we have the potential to score
at least 150 points. If that is not the record for most points in
the city championship, then I’m sure it is very very close.
Here is a short list of individuals
form other schools to look out in the city championship:
Griffin Lawler, Whitney Young- 800
meter run
Willard Lewis, Julian- 800 meter run;
400 meter run
Brandon Green, Robeson- sprints and
relays
Anthony Polk, Robeson- sprints and
relays
Edwin Moreno, Mather- Shot put, Discus
Ivan Coronel, Mather- 1600 meter run
Carlos Hernandez, Mather- 1600 meter
run
Sorahando Peter, Prosser- 400 meter run
Tony Bowman, Fenger- 400 meter run
"I want to win state in the 800 meter and place in the top 8 in the 400 meter run at state" said Willard Lewis of Julian.
