Redemption Year!

Lane Tech d. Payton 25-18, 25-19

(Payton High School, Chicago, IL) After winning the Public League championship in 2005, Lane expected big things in 2006. However,  last year the Lane Tech boys volleyball team had some uncharacteristic losses to Public League teams. One loss was to Northside Prep very early in the city playoffs and another loss was to Payton in the regular season. So this early season match versus Payton would be a big indication of where Lane stood in the Public League. Lane passed the test with a comfortable two game victory over Payton 25-18, 25-19.

Lane took a quick 8-0 lead in the first game before Payton stormed back to make the score interesting. However, Lane's power hitting led by Outside Hitter Angel Arce and timely kills by Donta Goodwin held Payton back and helped lead to the Lane victory. Payton was led by Henry Gottlieb (sr) who had several service points.

"I think we are going to do really well, this is a really strong team [Payton] and we handled them fairly well" said Lane captain Angel Arce on how he feels Lane will do this year.
