City...Reclaimed!

Lane Tech 2 Schurz 1

(UIC Field- Chicago, IL) Lane came into the city championship game confident. After all, Lane Tech had already beaten their foe Schurz 12-1 during the regular season. So it  would be an was game? Wrong. The Lane Tech girls softball team won the Chicago Public League Championship after a hard fought 2-1 victory over Schurz. Lane Tech took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Then, Schurz, who are nicknamed the bulldogs, fought like bulldogs and kept themselves in the game before they were able to push in a run in the top of 6th inning to knot the score 1-1. Lane Tech pitcher Jazzy Camacho pitched nine innings to break the 1-1 tie against Schurz. The winning run came when Jackie Manrique sacrificed a bunt in the 9th to allow Daniella Torres (#35) the winning score. Congratulations to the entire team who made the win possible, and many thanks to the coaches for their time, effort and patience.

Over the years, Lane has dominated girls softball in the Public League. However, last year Taft beat Lane in the city finals. With this victory Lane reclaims the city title.

Lane plays Von Steuben this Wednesday in the regional semi-finals of the New Trier sectional. If they get past Von Steuben, a battle with host New Trier will be their most likely oponnent. Last year, New Trier knocked out Lane Tech out of the playoffs with a 1-0 victory.
