State Points!

Morgan Monroe and Margie Zimoch scored state points for Lane Tech's girls track team. Morgan Monroe reached her goal of running under 44 seconds in the 300 meter low hurdles by clocking a time of 43.43 seconds to finish 4th in the state. Meanwhile Margie Zimoch leaped her season best in the long jump with a distance of 17-9 1/4 to finish 9th in the state. Those two finishes accounted for 7 state points. The last time a Lane Tech girls track team scored state points was in 2005 when Lane scored 15 points.

Margie Zimoch's jump of 17-9 1/4 puts her in the Lane Tech girls field events honor roll. In fact her leap is very very close to the Lane Tech record. In 1981 Anita Coleman of Lane Tech finished in 7th place in the IHSA state meet. However, the distance of her leap was not recorded on the IHSA website. It is estimated that her leap was about 18'8" but that is not certain. What is know is that Margie Zimoch, who is a senior leaves Lane as one of Lane Tech's best all-time long jumpers.

As for Morgan Monroe, she has already cemented her place as not only one of Lane Tech's best all-time hurdlers, but also won of the best ever in the Public League. Two weeks ago she broke a 13 year old Public League girls all-time record in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 45.17. Then at the state meet she destroyed that time by over 1.5 seconds. What's amazing is that Monroe is only a junior and will be back next year.
