Thoughts on Lane Tech Basketball Schedule

            Lane Tech will have a very interesting schedule this year. They start out the season playing in an upgraded Lane Tech Thanksgiving Tournament. Last year Lane Tech finished second in the Tournament that featured only one other traditionally strong basketball program. But this year, traditionally strong basketball programs Oak Park, Evanston, and Zion Benton will play in the tournament and all are scheduled to play Lane Tech. However, Lane will be lucky to win even one of the three games versus those opponents. Lane also plays Brooks and Taft in the Lane Tech tournament. Expect Lane victories in those games.

            Another change in 2006 will be Lane’s participation in the Luther North Holiday Tournament. Last year, Lane spent the holiday season playing in the very competitive Pontiac tournament where they got blown out by a very talented Warren team. This year, Lane will play in the less competitive but more exciting Luther North Holiday Tournament. The Luther North tournament has been traditionally filled with smaller class A type schools like Quigley, North Shore Country Day, and Latin or Blue Division Public League Schools like Amundsen and Taft. Although, in the past a few big time class AA school like Zion Benton participated and they may be back this year.  This was a great move by Lane Tech to play in this tournament. For one it is a whole lot closer to home (Luther North is in Chicago) and thus will give more fans an opportunity to watch the team. Secondly, Lane will have a chance to actually finish in the top or near the top of a holiday tournament. Lane had almost no chance in the Pontiac Tournament playing against some of the best teams in the state.

 The Luther North Tournament has not been released yet. Also, team will not know who they play in the second round and beyond until you found out who won on the previous day. Look out for a very exciting Luther North Tournament

            After, the holiday Tournaments, lane will mainly play against conference opponents. The top non-conference games this year will be Saturday, January 13^th against neighbor Gordon Tech at Gordon Tech and then February 21 vs. St. Ignatius at St. Ignatius.
