Lane Tech Fields Another Very Strong Chess
Team
-
Lane Tech is seeded 17th in the state for the
upcoming state chess tournament
-
Lane Tech finished 12th last year losing only
to state champion Niles North and state 8th place state
finisher Maine South in the 7 round state tournament. Lane's
12th place finish was the highest state finish Lane had in
any sport or activity in the 2005-06 season.
-
Lane lost a very close match 37.5-30.0 versus
state champion Niles North at the Glenbard South Raider team
tournament on January 20, 2007.
-
Participation for chess is very high for Lane
with at least an incredible 32 players with an official
chess rating. Kelly has the second greatest number of
players with a chess rating with 14 players. Only 8 players
compete at state so competition is fierce.
-
Lane also has at least 5 girls on their team
with chess ratings in a sport which is traditionally male
dominated.
