| In Wrestling, Lane Was overwhelmed and humbled at
Dundee Crown, but showed some resiliency. Along with wrestling #8 Oak
Park, Dundee-Crown (State Honorable Mention), and Corliss, #24 Prospect
was added into the mixed to Give Lane its toughest competition of the
year.
Lane Lost to Dundee-Crown 43-25. They didn't win a match until the
160 wt. class when Jamelle Williams stopped the bleeding with a pin,
followed with a 16-2 win for Yuriy Koverko (171, 10-0 this yr.), a pin
by Koshion Barfield, and wins by Justin Vargas and Stevie Santana.
Next was #24 Prospect. Lane lost 47-16. Lane's only wins didn't come
until 171 when Yuriy Koverko's major decision made the score 41-4. 215
Justin Vargas and 285 Stevie Santana got pins. Koshion Barfield wrestled
#4 ranked Peter Zintak, while Jamelle Williams lost to Brandon Zaucha,
ranked at 171. Although Barfield was pinned and Williams lost 5-2 they
wrestled tough.
Lane also lost to #8 Oak Park 60-15, but defeated Corliss 49-29. Vs.
Oak Park Lane, got a 5-3 win by Williams, and falls from Korverko and
Barfield. Oak Park, loaded with ranked wrestlers at 119, 125, 130, 140,
145, 152, 215, and HWT, just overpowered the Indians. The match vs.
Corliss featured the rematch of last yrs. city championship match at
160. Unfortunately Johnathan Freeman of Corliss bested Williams 3-1. But
his teammates were able to pick Lane up, getting wins from Barfield,
Koverko, Ganbold, Cobb, and Minneci.
