Wrestling Notes on the City Championship
from a LaneTechFan.com reader:
-
It was a stressful day for the
Lane Tech Wrestling team. Lane took 4th in city, after leading in the
semi-finals. The turning point of the tournament was the 189 semifinal match
between Koshion Barfield, and defending city champion Raymond Brown.
Barfield lost a close 7-6 match, after questionable reffing calls, and
afterwards was DQ'ed for his actions afterward. This caused Lane to lose all
of his contributed team points which decided the championship.
-
Lane was led by Champion Scott
Minneci (140), All-City runner up Jamelle Williams (160), and All-City
Selections Tog Ganbold (119, 3rd), David Mihaila(145, 4th, first yr.
wrestler), Justin Vargas (215,4th) and Yuriy Koverko (171 5th). With a
chance of losing Barfield for the Regionals Lane must rise to the occasion
if they want to repeat as IHSA regional Champions, after a lackluster
performance in the second day of the City Championships. The IHSA regional
will be held at Mather HS, on Saturday.
